Today is the start of my local meta’s 2014 Journeyman league. This is my first proper attempt at a Journeyman league, having only started playing in earnest last July. This blog will (hopefully) track my successes and failures as the league progresses.
The league is a 6-week league that will be played at the 50 point level for all 6 weeks. The goal is to get one 50 point list completely constructed and painted. The requirement for the players is that their list be at least half unpainted (27 points of models) before the league starts. Each week we can report up to 3 games with prizes being awarded at the end for the best record, most improvement sportsmanship, most impressive army, and most improved painter.
The warcaster I’ve chosen to go with is Skarre, Queen of the Broken Coast. It’s one of my favorite models in the Cryx line and I wanted an excuse to build a list around her. I like the model so much, in fact, that I painted it a week before the Journeyman started, doh.
As far as her play style, I really have no idea what to expect. I’ve been told that she runs jacks well, and looking at her spell list I can see that. I’ve paired her with Satyxis Raiders and Bane Thralls, but I’m not sure that I really needed Raiders in the list to jam. Looking at her list it feels a little more like a hodge podge of stuff I wanted an excuse to paint than a proper list. The list is:
Skarre, Queen of the Broken Coast (*6pts)
* Nightwretch (4pts)
* Deathjack (12pts)
* Leviathan (9pts)
Bane Thralls (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
* Bane Thrall Officer & Standard (3pts)
Necrosurgeon & 3 Stitch Thralls (2pts)
Satyxis Raiders (Leader and 9 Grunts) (8pts)
* Satyxis Raider Sea Witch (2pts)
Pistol Wraith (3pts)
Pistol Wraith (3pts)
Satyxis Raider Captain (2pts)
The whole thing is going to be a learning experience, as I’ve never played many of the models in the list before. The only models in the list that I really have a lot of table experience with are the Bane Thralls, and I’m used to supporting them with Tartarus.
Week One Goals
My goal for week one is to get some use out of Deathjack. I’ve played Deathjack before with Scaverous and Terminus, but he’s always gotten shot up before he really did anything. With Admonition, Death Ward, and Perdition, I’d love to be able to unleash the Deathjack on something before he crumbles to dust.
As always, my goal is to have fun, win a few games, and learn more about my faction. I’m still relatively new to the Nightmare Empire, so every time I put my Cryx on the table I try to learn something new. Hobby-wise I’d love to win the Most Impressive Army award, but there are a ton of amazing painters in my meta so that will be a very difficult task.
I’d also like to really keep up with this blog, so I hope I can find the time to do so. In any case, here goes nothing.
